Sanchez offers Xi Jinping his “constructive work” to help China and EU resolve their differences

The head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, proposed on Monday to the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, “constructive work” on the part of Spain so that the relations between the Asian country and the European Union are richer and more balanced and that their differences are resolved through dialogue and negotiation.

From the first day of his visit to China, Sánchez had already launched a series of messages in favour of dialogue between China and the EU in the face of existing tariff tensions between the two partiesand this is what he directly conveyed to Xi during the meeting he had with him at the Diaoyutai Palace.

The beginning of this meeting, which then continued with a dinner, was open to informants, and the head of the Executive stressed the importance of the “central role” that China plays in the world, ensuring that Europe also plays.

“Spain wants to work constructively so that relations between the two regions are closer, richer and more balanced. This will translate – he added – into the benefit and prosperity of our societies”, in statements reported by Efe.

For Sánchez, in an increasingly complex global geopolitical and economic context, both parties must work together to resolve their differences through negotiation, in a spirit of dialogue and collaboration and within multilateral frameworks.

“We must first and foremost seek solutions that benefit all partiesand this is the commitment and desire of Spain,” he said amid tariff tensions between China and the EU.

Beijing announced in June an investigation into unfair competition against certain imports of pork and pork products from the European Union in response to tariffs imposed by Brussels on Chinese vehicles.

The President of the Government considered that his second visit to China in just over a year highlights the good bilateral relations and the wealth of exchanges.

In this context, stressed the importance of the agreements signed on Monday in various areas, such as trade and ecological development..

Beyond these relations and the need for China and the EU to overcome their differences, Sánchez spoke of the influence that the Asian country and its president can have in resolving conflicts such as the one in Ukraine.

He also spoke of the need to end the situation in Gaza and considered that in all cases, international law and the principles and rights contained in the Charter of the United Nations must be respected.
