It seems clear that the position of the government of Pedro Sanchez after the terrorist attack against Israel in October 2023 and Tel Aviv’s subsequent response in bombing Gaza was not an example of balance, since it took the side of the Palestinian people by harshly criticizing the Hebrew government. And this of course had consequences: exports to Israel fell 452 million between November 2023 and June 2024 compared to the same period before (November 2022 to June 2023). The data speak for themselves: from November 2022 to June 2023, Spain’s exports to Israel reached 1,529,154,584 euros, while from November 2023 to June 2024, this figure fell to 1,067,702,118 euros, representing a decrease of 452,452,466 euros. A decrease of 29.5%.
In other words: Israel has closed us off, to a large extent, the control valveand he no longer counts us among his privileged clients. The problem is that the fact that Sánchez, instead of opting for prudence, took sides in such a blatant manner has been paid for above all by Spanish companies. Vox has asked a very clear parliamentary question to find out the “commercial cost” of the “Deterioration” of relations between Spain and Israel. And the Sánchez government responded with the figures mentioned above, but blaming the international landscape: “Throughout 2023, the slowdown in Spanish exports has already been observed, largely due to the environment of uncertainty that has led to a depreciation of the shekel, harming European exports. . And it tries to confuse by pointing out that before the conflict, exports were already down 3.44%. Yes, of course, but later this negative percentage increased to almost 30%. These are big words and not the government’s clumsy excuses. That “the continuity of the war over time and the risk that the conflict will spread to a regional war does not bode well for the Israeli economy in the current year” sounds like a pretext. The truth is that attacking Israel costs our country a lot. But of course, Pedro Sánchez does not pay for that.
