Sanctioned for purchasing three specimens of conch of a protected species in Palencia

Three specimens of Charonia Lampas conch shells were located by the Civil Guard of Palencia inside a postal parcel.

This species is classified as vulnerable in the Spanish catalog of threatened species.

According to sources from the Government Sub-delegation, these events occurred in the middle of an inspection of a parcel delivery company in the capital of Palencia.

Civil Guard agents located a package containing the three specimens of the said species.

It is interesting to note that, given the particular protection of this seriously endangered species, its capture and marketing are prohibited, regardless of its age.

For these facts, the sender and recipient have been offered sanctions of the package as alleged violators of what is established by the law on natural heritage and biodiversity.

Finally, the three conch specimens were made available to the competent environmental authority.
