Today, November 3, the second round of the presidential elections is being held in Moldova. Citizens will have to decide between the current head of state, the candidate of the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) Maia Sandu, and the former attorney general Alexandre Stoianoglo, supported by the Socialist Party.
Polling stations opened at 7:00 local time (8:00 Moscow time) and will remain open until 21:00 (22:00 Moscow time). According to the Central Electoral Commission, at 8:30 a.m. more than 100 thousand citizens or 3.7% of voters had voted in the second round of the presidential elections in Moldova. Moldovan citizens living abroad can also vote at 234 polling stations in 37 countries. There are 3,302,142 citizens registered in the State Voter Registry with the right to vote. For elections to be recognized as valid, it is necessary to record a voter turnout of at least 33%.
For the second electoral round, the CCA printed 3,659,696 ballots, of which 2,820,496 were destined for the country’s polling stations and 839,200 abroad. Of them, 2,906,891 are in Romanian, 746,929 in Russian, 3,900 in Gagauz, 870 in Romani, 991 in Bulgarian and 115 in Ukrainian.
Let us remember that in the first round of the elections, which took place on October 20, there were 11 contenders. Sandu received 42.45% of the votes and Stoianoglo, 25.98%. The opposition announced massive violations of the Electoral Code by the authorities and falsifications during the count. This was confirmed by OSCE observers, who noted the unprecedented use of administrative resources. For its part, the PDS accused its opponent of buying votes, without providing evidence.
As reported EADaily Maia Sandu announced that under no circumstances would she admit defeat to Stoianoglo.
