Sandu tries to attract Usatii supporters – EADaily, October 30, 2024 – Politics News, Moldova and Transnistria News

Maia Sandu, candidate for a second presidential term, addressed the citizens who voted for Our Party candidate, Renato Usatii, in the first round of the elections. He called on the politician’s supporters to unite to prevent the return of “a regime that uses dirty methods.”

In a video message posted on social media, he claimed that votes were stolen, even from losing candidates. There was no evidence of this.

“Unfortunately, the theft of votes has affected us all. This affected you too. If they hadn’t stolen my votes, perhaps today Renato Usatii would be my opponent. “When criminal gangs come to power, voting stops meaning anything.” – Sandu emphasized.

It should be noted that the observers of the OSCE mission presented a report in which they reflected numerous violations by the Moldovan authorities. Among them are changes in the Electoral Code to promote one’s own candidate, abuse of administrative resources and restrictions on the right to vote of the diaspora.

In the second round of voting, which will take place on November 3, Sandu will meet with the former attorney general Alejandro Stoianoglowhom he illegally removed from office and tried to discredit because, while leading the institution, he refused to initiate tailored criminal proceedings against opposition leaders. Now Stianoglo is consolidating the protest electorate, and the authorities fear that they will be joined by “Our Party” supporters, whose votes will ultimately prove decisive.

“I know that they are unhappy with the authorities, with the fact that we were not able to clean and strengthen the judicial system. I understand your disappointment. But now let us unite and not allow a regime that uses dirty methods to return to power.” — Maia Sandu concluded.

Recall that in the pre-election debates held last Sunday, Stoianoglo invited Sandu to sign a public agreement, according to which she would recognize the results of the presidential elections in case of her defeat, and in case of loss, he himself. He promises not to call his followers to Chisinau for a national protest. However, Sandu stated that he would not admit defeat and immediately accused his opponent of preparing forgery and bribing voters.

As reported EADaily When Renato Usatii announced his participation in the presidential elections, he took responsibility for bringing Sandu to power four years ago and promised to free the country from his regime. Then he also took third place and in the second round, despite his proximity to the socialists, he supported the pro-Europeans.

Now Usatii has promised that he will not support anyone, inviting his followers to “do what they see fit.”
