The Board of Directors of the Federation of Editors’ Guilds of Spain (FGEE) has awarded the 2024 Liber Prize to the most outstanding Spanish-American author to Santiago Muñoz Machado, who will receive the award at an event on October 2 at the International Book Fair (Liber) 2024 in Barcelona, reported the Fira de Barcelona in a press release on Wednesday.
With this prize, the FGEE wants to recognize “its proximity to the world of books” and its work essayist in social sciencesas well as the impact of several of his works and essays such as “We Speak the Same Language.” Political History of Spanish in America, from the Conquest to Independence.
We also wish to highlight his work on clear language or the collective works that he has directed of a general linguistic or specialized language nature, such as the ‘Panhispanic Dictionary of Legal Spanish’ (DPEJ), in which more than 400 professors, magistrates and academics.
An author with an excellent bibliography
Born in Pozoblanco (Córdoba) in 1949, he is the author of a vast and varied bibliography, ranging from books to articles and studies; In 2013 he received the National Essay Award (“Reporting on Spain. Rethinking the State or Destroying It”) and in 2018 the National History Prize (“We Speak the Same Language. Political History of Spanish in America, from Conquest to Independence”).
Among his main jobs They highlight “the problem of the structure of the State in Spain. From the 18th century to the 21st century (2006)”; the trilogy ‘Reportage on Spain. Rethinking the State or destroying it’ (2012); ‘Catalonia and the other Spains’ (2014); ‘Riofrío: The Justice of the Lord Judge’ (2010); and ‘Cervantes’ (2022).
Muñoz Machado was elected director of the RAE in 2018 and re-elected in 2022; He chairs the Association of Spanish Language Academies (Asale) and is vice-president of the Foundation of the Royal Spanish Academy and State Counselor of Law; In addition, he directs the “Panhispanic Dictionary of Legal Spanish” and the Ibero-American Legal Platform.
