In a week the XXIII edition of the Almería International Film Festival, Fical, will begin, which will be held from November 15 to 24. More than a hundred activities, all free, round tables with prestigious filmmakers and performers, feature film, short film and series competitions, tributes, galas…, and many other surprises which strengthen the eternal bond that unites the province of Almería with the seventh art.

He filmmaker and actor Santiago Seguracreator and protagonist of sagas like “Torrente” or “Padre no hay mas que uno”, will receive the festival’s Honorary Prize in recognition of his career during the opening gala, Friday November 15, from 8:30 p.m. hours, at the Maestro Padilla Auditorium with the presentation of Elena Sánchez.

For his part, the actress Veronica Sánchezstar of series like “Los Serrano” or “Al sur de Granada”, and who participated in the filming of the series “Sky Rojo” in the province, will receive the “Almería, land of cinema” award during the international gala “Almería en brief” which will take place on Friday November 22 from 8:00 p.m. at the Teatro Cervantes. In the morning of the same day, the actress will inaugurate her star on the capital’s Walk of Fame, in front of the Cervantes Theater.

The special tributes will end at the closing gala with the actress Najwa Nimriknown for his characters in films like “The Lovers of the Arctic Circle”, or series like “La casa de papel” or “Vis à vis”, this last tour in the province of Almería, will bring together his “Almería, land of cinema ‘ prize ‘ during the closing gala, Saturday November 23, from 8:00 p.m., at the Maestro Padilla Auditorium, with the presentation of Cayetana Guillén Cuervo The actress. will also have a star on the Almería Walk of Fame.

Fical will distinguish with the Series of honorary prizes for “Physics or Chemistry” and “Entrevías”. These prizes are awarded to television productions that have marked the history of Spanish audiovisual. The other series recognized, in this case with the Filming Almería Prize for the diffusion of Almeria landscapes in the form of scenery, is “Los Farad”.

In addition to all these awards, other names receive special awards in this edition. This year, Fical launches a new award awarded by the Andalusian Cinema Academy with an award focused on human values ​​that goes to Almerian actor Brianeitor. Likewise, in this edition, the producer and president of the Andalusian Cinema Academy, Marta Velasco, will receive the prize awarded by Canal Sur.

Institutional collaboration

This Friday, at the Patio de Luces de la Diputación, the programming of the new edition of Fical was unveiled in an event attended by the President of the Provincial Council, Javier A. García; the mayor of Almería, María del Mar Vázquez; the delegate of the Board of Directors in Almería, Aránzazu Martín and the director of Fical 2024, Enrique Iznaola.

“Fical has managed to become one of the most important festivals on the national scene, prelude to Goya and, at the same time, it once again transmits the enthusiasm for the magic of cinema to all the inhabitants of Almeria. Fical enhances this heritage by linking it to the present and the future because it also contributes to continuing to promote Almería as a land of cinema, as the best natural setting in the world”, underlined the president of the Provincial Deputation of Almería.

María del Mar Vázquez, wanted to describe this year’s program is impressive of a Fical “which has continued to grow over these more than twenty years and which has made it known throughout Spain and even abroad”, and recalled the recent visit of a ‘ famtrip’ of the Film Commission of professionals from all over the world.

Aránzazu Martín explained that “from the Andalusian Government we collaborate through a series of initiatives and resources that seek boost the region’s film industryattract productions and improve the visibility of Almería as a filming destination. “This collaboration is reflected in several key areas, such as institutional and financial support, providing economic and logistical support for the development of the festival,” he concluded.
