Izarra self-service of Estelle It is one of the few grocery stores still open in the villages of Navarre. The lack of relief and competition department stores led to the closure of a large number of them.
The Izarra self-service is located in Santa Beatriz de Silva Street 4, next to the arenas of the town of Ega. Very close to the Deportes Uro run by Fidel Muguerza and his daughter María, or the El Zarapatel restaurant at Paseo de la Inmaculada 70.
Sara Olleta Vicente She is the one who runs and works at Self-Service, with her husband. Daniel Jiménez, And Juan Carlos who has worked in the delicatessen business for over 40 years: “I have been running the business for three years but before that, I was an employee for over twenty years,” says Sara.
“Business is going well. Not as we would like because it is true that work is decreasing, there are a lot of supermarkets. However, “We are lucky here to have a regular, daily clientele.”said the owner of the place.
“There are elderly people who are helped to carry their groceries home if they need it. We prepare their orders if they cannot come or if they are in poor health. People from the neighborhood really appreciate it and continue to come,” explains Sara.
“It’s treated with love. It’s special treatment. It’s not like the big box stores that just say hello and goodbye. Here you are trying to get to know the person. You learn more or less and know what he likes to buy. You try to get them if they’re not there at the time…
Sara knows almost everyone in the neighborhood: “There are always new people coming to buy, but We usually know everyone. We know what they like and what they don’t like.” What sells the most “is a little bit of everything so they have everything at their fingertips. “Like a pharmacy, soap, bread, milk.”
Regarding working hours, they owe it to their customers: “We are open every day, including public holidaysexcept Christmas, New Year and Epiphany, which are the only days when it is completely closed. Also on weekends, but with slightly shorter hours, it is open.
“I’m happy. I’ve been working for many years now. At least I’m working. It doesn’t lead to great things but we work. It’s enough to live on. I am very happy. You have to work a lot. It is true that such an enterprise is very slavery-like. It’s true, but I like it,” Sara says.
Opening hours are almost early in the morning: “We open every day at 7 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. We arrive early in the morning because we have to make the bread, take out the products and the workers arrive immediately for lunch.”
Customers hope that the self-service will remain open for many years: “People are very grateful. We hope to stay for a few more years. even if it becomes more and more difficult. The prices are exorbitant and we operate with less commercial margin than the department stores,” concludes Sara.
Customer references on social networks are very good: “It’s a small, very complete neighborhood self-service, very goodit has everything you could possibly need, what they have is very good quality.”
“It opens every day of the week and that helps the neighbors a lot. The couple who run it are wonderful, very kind and very kind, They are very legal people. “Highly recommended.”
