There are many songs left in my heart. Under this title, which constitutes a declaration of intent, the Guillermo de Osma Gallery inaugurates the fifth exhibition dedicated to In Berlin (Ciria, Soria, 1959) in which approximately 42 works will be exhibited.
In Berlin He is one of the most notable artists of his generation, that of figurine made in Madrid From the 1980s his work has been exhibited in important galleries and institutional venues such as the IVAMthe Bancaja Foundation, Conde Duque of Madrid or at the Tomás y Valiente Center. His first exhibition in this same Madrid gallery took place in 1999 and was then followed by exhibitions in 2004, 2016 and 2019.
Great versatility
Since its creation, Dis Berlin has demonstrated great versatility in its aesthetic proposals with the most varied techniques such as painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, photography, photomontage, ceramics… She also combined with the work of gallery owner, editor and curator. His work is characterized by careful technique and its very original universe.
That vibrant palette and so authentic, the colors he uses evoke the wild animals and the magical realism of the 1920s; but here however the absence of easily recognizable scenes prevails. For that In Berlin He consults his extensive archive of images, almost all dating from the 1940s and 1950s, which serve as the basis for his creations.
We thus discover how all his work is presided over by the same spirit: that of world rich in images with which the artist manages to create a universe full of imaginative resources that always manage to surprise the viewer.
His rich and personal creative world has been caught in the viewers retina because his work has been present in many films Pedro Almodóvar, from Átame! (1990) until recently released The next room (2024), already part of the collective imagination.
A universe full of imaginative resources
On this occasion, the exhibition brings together landscapes and interiors populated with objects; rarely occur human figures who, in the same way, are treated almost like objects. The combination of these elements produces paradoxical scenes full of mystery and many times, a sense of humor.
Dis Berlin manages to create in these works an almost metaphysical atmosphere from which emanates a tranquility and a silence that invite meditation, deliberately born as a counterpoint to the confusion and emptiness he perceives in today’s world.
Everything is meticulously drawn from both an aesthetic point of view and formal and thematic. From the title with which each work is conceived – which plays with poetry or humor – to the story that emerges from the whole, it is the result of work studied in detail, leaving nothing to the chance or improvisation.
On this occasionDis Berlin will publish one of his unpublished texts in the catalog that the Gallery publishes, as always.
