Telephone scammers looking to cash in on Russians have come up with a new way to fool gullible people. As the Telegram channel “Moscow Now” reports, the attackers attacked where it hurts most: sadness and longing for deceased relatives.
People call and introduce themselves as a deceased relative or friend, after which they name a specific account and the amount that should be transferred to it. The source does not specify what the caller needs money for.
Scammers use a neural network to generate voices of deceased people. According to one of the sources, in several cases the “deceased” reported that during their lives they had not paid a debt to someone and now they could not find peace.
