Scholarships of up to 1,500 euros for journalism students: these are the requirements

The ‘la Caixa’ Foundation and the EFE Agency have launched a call for applications final year students of Journalism and Audiovisual Communication in Spanish universities. What are scholarships?

These scholarships offer a unique opportunity for journalism and audiovisual communication students to complete professional internships at Agencia EFE. The program is divided into two phasesYes:

Conditions for accessing scholarships

To benefit from one of these scholarships, it is necessary to meet a series of specific conditions:

  • Nationality: Candidates must have Spanish nationality.

  • Studies: Only students enrolled in the final year of journalism or audiovisual communication and with at least 30 ECTS credits pending to obtain their diploma can apply.

  • Internship location: Interested persons must carry out the internship in one of the EFE Agency’s headquarters in Spain or at its headquarters in Madrid. Subsequently, in a second phase, the practices will be carried out in international delegations.

  • Languages: It is essential to master Spanish and, if you are doing the internship in an autonomous community with a co-official language, to also know that language. Likewise, a good level of English is required and, if necessary, the language of the country where the international internship takes place.

  • Compatibility: Beneficiaries may not benefit from other financial scholarships or similar aid during the period of enjoyment of these scholarships, except for exceptions linked to the Ministry’s collaboration scholarships.

Financial provisions and additional benefits

The scholarship program offers a financial award divided into two parts:

• During the first nine months internship in Spain, students will receive a monthly aid of 650 euros.

• In the second phaseWhen scholarship holders complete their internship abroad, the amount increases to 1,500 euros monthly.

In addition to this financial assistance, beneficiaries will also benefit from assistance with travel expenses: 500 euros for destinations in Europe and 1,000 euros for the rest of the countries.

Another of the great attractions of this program is that those selected will have their tuition fees covered to study the Master in Transmedia Journalism at the National Distance Learning University (UNED) in collaboration with the EFE Agency. They will also have travel insurance that will cover them during their international stay.

Selection and application process

The candidate selection process is conducted according to a competitive system. An evaluation committee will be responsible for reviewing applications and selecting those that best match the requirements and capabilities needed to benefit from these practices.

The process includes a written test and a personal interview with the members of the committee, who will assess both the academic record and the students’ ability to adapt to the professional environment.
