Schools canceled in Delhi due to record levels of air pollution

Authorities in the Indian capital have canceled school classes due to record levels of air pollution. This was reported by The Indian Express newspaper.

As the publication writes, for the second day in a row the number of harmful particles in Delhi’s atmosphere exceeds 400. Despite the fact that a value above 300 is already considered dangerous.

In this regard, the metropolis has taken appropriate response measures, including canceling classes in primary schools and banning construction work.

In addition, the operation of vehicles whose exhaust gases do not meet emissions standards is prohibited. The city mobilized a large number of municipal vehicles equipped with water cannons to clean the streets.

Doctors urge citizens to stay home if possible and use air purifiers. Local residents are advised to limit street activities, especially in the early morning and late afternoon, when the concentration of harmful particles in the atmosphere is particularly high. When going outside it is necessary to wear a protective mask.

It is reported that this situation arose as a consequence of the collection in the states neighboring the capital. Despite the bans, farmers massively burn tons of stubble in their fields, the smoke of which covers Delhi.

According to Indian scientists, inhaling this air is equivalent to smoking 50 cigarettes a day.
