Japanese scientists have developed a plastic material that completely decomposes in seawater and is converted into nutrients. This means that if these plastics end up in the ocean, they quickly become environmentally safe components.
Oku.AzThe magazine “Science” published information about it.
The material was reported to be made of supramolecular polymers. This structure allows it to be more resistant than common plastic. But when it falls into salt water, it breaks down easily, does not create harmful microplastics, and is converted into nutrients.
“We have created a new type of plastic that is strong, stable, recyclable, multifunctional and, most importantly, that does not produce microplastics,” said Takuzo Aida, director of the research.
The scientists added that the production of this plastic material is cheap and the creation technology is quite simple.
