The international community is paying increasing attention to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which is constantly increasing its influence in the world. This was stated by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong at a briefing on China’s rotating presidency of the SCO in 2024-2025, TASS reports.
According to him, the history of the development of the SCO has proved that under the new conditions of our times, the concept of cooperation based on the spirit of Shanghai is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.
“The cohesion, attractiveness and influence of our organization are constantly increasing.” Sun Weidong said.
He added that China considers the SCO “a priority of its foreign policy.”
The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China recalled that after Belarus’ admission to the organization, the total territory of the SCO member states exceeded 36 million sq. km, which is more than 65% of the territory of the Eurasian continent.
Following the SCO summit in Astana in July, the SCO presidency for 2024-2025 passed to China, where the next summit will be held in 2025.
