Seat activates weekend team to achieve record production

seat puts Martorell at full capacity to close 2024 with a production record. The Volkswagen Group carmaker has activated the fourth shift of the Catalan plant with a call for all weekends – Saturday morning and Sunday evening – until the end of the year, with the aim of recovering the assemblies lost due to the adaptation work. facilitated to the arrival of new electric models. Some additional changes thanks to which the brand expects to achieve the best figures in its history due to the high demand for its models to overcome the 500,000 units assembled in 2024.

This was highlighted by union sources in interviews with this newspaper, who confirmed that “production forecasts are positive at Seat Martorell thanks to the strong demand for the models produced in the factory in the different European markets and which has forced the expansion of the production schedule during the last four months of the year.

“The work in the factory to adapt the lines to the production of 100% electric cars has resulted in the daily loss of around 400 units“, which forced us to call the workers to a fourth weekend shift, with the activation of the assemblies on Saturday morning and Sunday evening for their recovery,” detailed the aforementioned sources.

Works in Martorell

The factory management has closed line 1 for modification, in which Ibiza Seat and the Arona seatand sent these models to Line 3, where the Audi A1 is assembled. Before the above-mentioned works, these lines manufactured 1,400 cars per day. Currently, about 1,020 units do this daily and 400 are lost during the weekend shift.

“We are going to reach production levels as if we had not done the work. What we can say is that we will have around half a million cars produced in Martorell in 2024,” they confirmed to OKDIARIO.

Seat returns to pre-pandemic production

Some figures with which the brand of Volkswagen Group will return to the figures from before the impact of the coronavirus crisis, when the plant assembled half a million units and which have not been recorded since 2019 due to the effects derived from low demand during the pandemic, as well as the impact of the semiconductor crisis.

In 2023, the Seat factory in Martorell closed its doors with 450,000 units product. Figures that represent a 20% increase in assemblies compared to the same period of the previous year, thanks to the improvement of the parts supply and the normalization of logistics problems this year, to which must be added the increase in demand in international markets.
