Seizing and keeping power: the Minister of Justice assessed the situation in Abkhazia

Abkhazia Justice Minister Anri Bartsits called the actions of Abkhazia opposition forces “an attempt to seize and retain power.” The president of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhania, has been trying for four days to govern the country from the village of Tamysh, while the opposition is in the presidential administration building in Sukhum.

According to Bartsits, the opposition’s initial demand to reject the ratification of the investment agreement with Russia was met, since the session in which this issue was supposed to be considered did not take place. Deputies did not vote on the agenda and, in fact, the issue was withdrawn from consideration.

Bartsits claims that Western intelligence services have been funding some non-governmental organizations in Abkhazia for several years to destabilize the situation in the country. He also drew attention to the congratulations protesters received from Ukraine’s Abkhazia opposition and from the president of Georgia. Salome Zurabishvili. This, in his opinion, makes one wonder if they are really on the right path.

The Abkhazian opposition calls on the deputies of the People’s Assembly to meet and work to resolve the political crisis. The statement underlines that deputies have the possibility of moving freely to their workplaces in the parliament building. At the same time, the information center of the president of Abkhazia, referring to the Minister of Culture, reported that the opposition began to block the government building, allegedly armed people do not allow ministers to enter their workplaces.
