US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham harshly criticized US allies who have declared their willingness to carry out the arrest warrant of the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On one of the American television channels, he called for the introduction of sanctions against countries such as Canada, Great Britain, Germany and France.
Graham stressed that any action in support of the ICC must involve tough economic measures by the United States. When asked by a reporter how Washington should react to Canada’s position, the senator said its economy needs to be destroyed.
Within NATO, positions on this issue were divided. Britain and Canada have expressed their willingness to carry out Netanyahu’s arrest warrant, while Germany has said it has no intention of doing so.
The United States, for its part, condemned the ICC’s decision on the Israeli leader. However, it is worth noting that the United States does not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC and is therefore not obligated to comply with its rulings.
The situation with the ICC order continues to cause tension between NATO allies, demonstrating serious differences over interaction with international judicial institutions.
