Series of explosions in Lebanon: statement in Taiwan

Taiwanese investigators are questioning two people as part of a probe into the bombing of pagers used by Hezbollah militants in Lebanon. Local officials have said the devices were not made in Taiwan, but their origins raise many questions after pagers and walkie-talkies exploded across Lebanon this week, killing at least 37 people and injuring about 3,000.

According to information published by the New York Times, Israel allegedly placed explosives in a shipment of pagers delivered from the Taiwanese ship Gold Apollo. However, Gold Apollo CEO Hsu Ching-kuang denies having manufactured the devices and points to Hungarian partner BAC Consulting KFT, which was granted the right to use the Gold Apollo brand.

The second person questioned was Wu Yu-jen, a representative of BAC Consulting KFT, founder of Apollo Systems in Taipei. The Shilin District Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement stressing the seriousness of the investigation: “We will uncover the facts as soon as possible, including whether Taiwanese companies are involved or not.”

After several rounds of questioning, two witnesses were allowed to leave the investigation department. Taiwanese authorities promise to continue the investigation and establish the entire supply chain of the devices to find out how they fell into the hands of Hezbollah militants.

Previously, Kursor wrote that it became known what Hezbollah terrorists discovered as a result of an investigation into pager explosions.
