Seven families affected by the Campanar fire remain in the Safranar municipal building because they have no alternative

The mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, the councilor for urban planning, Juan Giner, and the councilor for social services, Marta Torrado, held a meeting this Tuesday to address the situation of the people affected by the fire in Campanar who for six months have been living in the homes in the Safranar building offered free of charge by the Valencia City Council.

As reported by elDiario.es, finally 92 of the 99 families who took advantage of this housing alternative left the property this Monday. 92% of the families have therefore started a new stage: “It has been an orderly and serene process, where the Valencia City Council has maintained a constant dialogue with the representatives of the people affected by the Campanar fire. Yesterday a new stage began for them and I can only convey to them a message of gratitude, support and hope. They are an example of resistance. They have behaved in an exemplary manner and the City Council will always carry them in its heart,” said the mayor of Valencia.

During the meeting, the Valencia City Council addressed the situation of the seven families still in the Safranar building. “There are various cases that we will analyze very carefully and in great detail. Personalized and individualized attention will be given to these families. We have activated the Housing and Social Services protocols, and we will study your request for a vulnerability assessment and your request to register as a rental housing applicant,” he added.

The Safranar building, which has 131 homes, was acquired in July by the municipality through trial and error for 20 million euros, to meet the list of candidates for affordable rental housing for people over 65 and under 35, and next week the new tenants who were on the waiting list will begin to move in.

Finally, regarding the future reconstruction of the Campanar building, it was agreed to speed up the administrative procedures that the municipal administration is responsible for the reconstruction of the building. The cleaning of the debris of the burnt building is expected to begin in September, while the development of the reconstruction project will begin as soon as possible.
