Seven out of ten Mexicans who were born in poverty They are still currently poorAccording to public organizations, to urgently develop a state policy focused on the promotion of social mobility through equality.
According to the “Report on Social Mobility in Mexico 2025: the stability of the inequality of opportunities”, prepared by the center of Espinos Iglezia (CEEY), 73 percent of people born in 20 percent of households with a smaller number of resources from Mexico, remain in poverty of income.
This situation reflects stagnation in social mobility, understood as the ability of people to overcome the socio -economic situation of their parents.
The study warns that this condition of origin is maintained among generations, so Ceey emphasizes the urgency of the development of state policy aimed at facilitating social mobility through equal opportunities.
“Evidence is presented why the factors outside the Mexican population determine their life trajectory: from economic resources and the formation of their parents, to the place of birth and gender of people,” said Roberto Vales Gradzhales, the Executive Director of the CEEY and the reporter of the report.
In the north of the country, 37 percent of people born in the lowest economic group cannot overcome it, and in the south – 64 percent.
In turn, in the highest groups of economic resources, social mobility for women is lower, with 47 percent compared to 53 percent of men.
The report emphasizes that 48 percent of economic inequality in Mexico is due to the inequality of opportunities, placing the country among ten with greater inequality of this type among 50 countries at the international level.
Education factor
The study emphasizes that “education is still not the engine of social mobility for the Mexicans.”
Only each of ten people with parents with primary or less, reaching professional research, while the Mexicans whose parents conducted professional studies have seven times more opportunities to achieve it.
This implies that three of four people with parents with primary research do not exceed a complete secondary school, which is the secondary education of the country.
The authors of the report show that in order to change this situation, it is necessary that social and educational policy include the approach of social mobility, adapting to the gender state, economic origin, level of education and regions of the country.
