The Valladolid Civil Guard arrested seven people and dismantled a “sophisticated” drug trafficking network led by two residents of Medina de Rioseco, who, according to the command’s chief colonel, Andrés Manuel Velarde, was “most active in the sale of narcotics on a small scale” in the aforementioned city of Valladolid and in its surroundings.
According to what was detailed to the media during a press conference, by the government subdelegate in Valladolid, Jacinto Canales, the investigation, framed in the ‘Corruvta’ operation, began before last summer with the identification of a cocaine sales point in the town, which revealed the involvement of these two young people, who led “an apparently normal life, working and raising animals”.
Concretely, one of those responsible, identified as the head of the network, worked in an establishment, raised dogs and horses and used several vehicles for his illicit activities, while another of the people investigated supported him in drug trafficking .
The point of sale was managed by a third party who, with the help of another inmate, delivered cocaine to several people on a daily basis. Agents checked these movements several times and confirmed that sales resumed after receiving the drugs.
The investigation revealed that the criminal activity spread to other towns such as Mansilla de las Mulas (León), where one of the detainees exchanged cocaine for heroin with another.
It was in the early hours of last Sunday to Monday that, after the return of one of the people investigated from Pontevedra, five people were arrested in Medina de Rioseco and multiple searches were carried out, during which precision scales were , useful for the production of paper, cocaine prepared for distribution, marijuana “which exceeded four kilos” and nearly 20,000 euros in cash, explained the Government subdelegate.
In additionsearches were carried out in a house in Paredes de Nava (Palencia), where evidence of drug trafficking was found, including precision scales, equipment for preparing paper and remains of heroin and in Mansilla de las Mulas (León), where firearms, knives were found , ammunition, money, as well as drones “that they used to find. guarantee their safety.” The distribution of different types of drugs, cocaine, heroin and marijuana, was confirmed in a point of sale and distribution, perceived by the population and which monopolized the activity in the region.
The operation remains open and further arrests are not ruled out, while officers continue to investigate the movements of those involved and their links to other locations. Currently, among the seven detainees, one has been imprisoned and another has been conditionally released, the head of the Command said.
