Rodrigo Bentancurmidfielder Tottenhamwas suspended by the FA for the next seven matches for a racist comment towards Heung Min Son.
During an interview, the journalist asked his partner for a rubber band: “Could you bring me the Korean’s shirt?”
“Sonny?” replied the Uruguayan. “Yes, or any champion”the reporter responded before Bentacur made the aforementioned comment.
“It could be one of Sonny’s cousins, because They are all more or less the same“, said the midfielder.
The FA, as in other previous comments, was categorical: “Tottenham Hotspur midfielder breached FA Rule E3.1 by acting inappropriately and/or using abusive and/or insulting language and/or discrediting the game. alleged that this constitutes an “aggravated offense” which is defined in FA Rule E3.2, because it included a reference, express or implied, to the nationality and/or race and/or ethnic origin”.
Son, for his part, exonerated his partner and shed light on the matter: “He apologized immediately afterwards, while we were on vacation. I was at home and I didn’t even realize what was happening He sent me a very long message and. you could tell it came from the heart“.
