The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (SMC) has issued a warning for “severe weather» in several regions of Barcelona and Tarragona, where a maximum degree of danger was decreed this morning.
As noted in a message in ‘X’, Meteocat reported that the main affected regions are Baix Llobregat, Anoia, Alt Penedès, Garraf (Barcelona) and Baix Penedès (Tarragona). The possibility of hail larger than 2 centimeters in diameter, wind gusts of more than 25 m/s, downbursts, tornadoes or sleeves, he stressed.
The Meteocat warning comes after the Dana’s tail that hit the Levant this week is moving north. Yesterday it was already decided to suspend scheduled non-urgent care in nine regions of Tarragona: Montsià, Baix Ebre, Terra Alta, Ribera de Ebro, Tarragonès, Priorat, Baix Camp, Alt Camp and Baix Penedès. The suspension will last between midnight this Sunday and 2:00 p.m. today, November 4.
The Government of the Generalitat also accepted restrict mobility in the aforementioned regions of Tarragona, and suspend classes, a decision that will affect around 140,000 students, or 7.1 percent of the total in Catalonia.
Last night a strong storm hit Sitges (Barcelona) this Sunday, with rainfall between 50 and 90 liters, flooding several streets, especially in the Land-Sea Zone. The torrential downpours also affected other neighboring towns, such as Sant Pere de Ribes and Vilanova i la Geltrú.
At the same time, train traffic on the R13, R14, R16, R16 and R17 of Rodalies will remain closed this Monday morning due to forecasts of unfavorable weather conditions in the southern Catalonia. As Renfe reports in a press release, the lines will be cut at this point until 3:00 p.m. and the alternative road service established in Roda de Berà (Tarragona) will be limited to 40% from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and the rest at 20% during the day.
