“Climate change is a major global challenge that increases geopolitical tensions and deepens crises.”
This was stated by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during his speech at the Leaders’ Summit of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), in Baku.

Sh. Mirziyoyev stressed that Uzbekistan fully supports Azerbaijan’s active efforts to expand international cooperation in the fight against modern climate challenges.
“Today, climate change is the main global challenge that directly affects the increase in geopolitical tension. In particular, the problems of poverty, food and energy security, and access to water and resources are deepening. We feel these problems acutely in Central Asia,” he said.
“Climate problems prevent improving the quality of life of the population and the implementation of national strategies,” he stated.
According to Sh.Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan is committed to the global goals of the Paris Agreement, including keeping warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius during the current century.
“For our part, we are implementing large-scale reforms to achieve carbon neutrality, we plan to reduce emissions by 35% by 2030. We are also expanding green space, cooperating with neighboring countries in the implementation of the regional climate strategy” . – stated the president of Uzbekistan.
