López Obrador affirmed that the decision not to invite Felipe VI was taken by his successor, whom he supported once again, during his last visit to the Yaqui people, where they supervised the work of the “Justice Plan for indigenous peoples”, that its administration remains unfinished and will have to continue under the Sheinbaum government.
“I remember that when he asked me about it (not inviting the King of Spain), I told him that I did not consider this necessary. »assured López Obrador.
“But she, contrary to what our adversaries think, She is a woman with convictions and argumentsor that they were asked at the time to apologize to the European invaders, to the Spanish, for the atrocities committed during the conquest and during three centuries of colonial rule,” he added.
The president, whose term ends on September 30, pointed out that, in his memoirs, Hernán Cortés recognized that to subjugate indigenous peoples, he caused rivers of blood to flow.
“Before the invasion, our people were free, there was no slavery. Cortés himself wrote this and there is also evidence that there was a lot of repression. Sheinbaum, who takes office on October 1, recalled that the “Justice Plan for the Yaqui People” It began with an apology from the Mexican state to indigenous peoples, which meant recognizing the atrocities of past governments who wanted to eradicate indigenous peoples to confiscate their territories and natural wealth.
