“Negligence, lies, disastrous management,…” All these adjectives and many more, this is what Vox addressed to the Minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Riberafrom the podium of the plenary session of the Congress. And they are the same as those of Santiago Abascal who argue that Ribera cannot be a European commissioner or a minister in the Spanish government.
“She is absolutely incapable,” accused the Vox deputy. José María Figaredowhich directly highlighted the responsibility of Ribera and the entire Executive in the deaths caused by DANA in Valencia and Castile-La Mancha. “His climate fanaticism killed more than 200 Spaniards”he denounced.
In his intervention at Congress, the Vox spokesperson did not go into the details of the management of October 29, a source of controversy between the Valencian Generalitat and the Palace of Moncloa, nor into the dance of alerts or powers which he has faced in recent weeks. to administrations and the PP with the PSOE.
For those of Santiago Abascal, beyond the concrete data, what happened demonstrates the “failure” of the State of Autonomies: the Valencian government of Carlos Mazón for “incompetent” and the executive of Pedro Sánchez for avoiding taking the reins of the catastrophe “by political calculation”. “An absolutely hypertrophied administration, a regional administration which, for you and me, leaves the house intact,” he lamented.
Figaredo then focused on the figure of Ribera as minister since 2018, a position that allowed her to become aware of “the dangerousness of the situation”, she argued. “You knew the risk, you knew it could happen. She has been there since 2018 and has done nothing because she is blinded by climate dogmatism which has caused more than 200 deaths,” she insisted.
Faced with this position, he recalled that Vox is “the only party” which opposes the European Green Deal and its “climate fanaticism” in Brussels. And he compared the 250 million euros that it claims to have cost to clean the Poyo ravine canal with the money that the government pays to associations in other countries like Guatemala, El Salvador or Morocco. “Don’t say there is no money because that’s not true,” he warned before the government bench.
At this point, he took over the responsibility of Sánchez and his ministers for the Valencia tragedy for not having assumed sole command of the management in accordance with the laws on national security and national defense. And he joked about the fact that the Executive hides behind a distribution of powers: “You who distort legality and legislation whenever you want”.
For Figaredo, the government’s “inaction” makes him “guilty” of the deceased, added to Pedro Sánchez’s international trips in recent weeks – “he has time for everything except the Spanish” – and Ribera’s attention to Brussels in instead of assuming his responsibility in Spain, going so far as to accuse him of “running away like a cowardly rat”.
“You are a complete disaster. Their climate fanaticism kills. They knew the risk and since 2018 they have done nothing. The State of Autonomies has failed, they left the Spaniards abandoned and now they are passing the buck to each other,” summarized the Vox deputy.
