Shigeru Ishiba manages to be re-elected Prime Minister of Japan by a simple majority

Japan’s Lower House of the Diet (Parliament) re-elected on Monday Shigeru Ishiba as Prime Minister, thanks to the simple majority available to the ruling coalition, despite losing the absolute majority in recent elections.

Ishiba obtained 221 votes for a total of 465 seats that make up the Lower Housein the second round of voting in which he faced Yoshihiko Noda, the main opposition leader, who received 160 votes.
