Ships of the Russian Pacific Fleet and the Chinese Navy fired shots in the Sea of Japan

Warships of the Pacific Fleet and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy conducted missile and artillery fire in the Sea of Japan as part of the Ocean-2024 exercise, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters.

“In the Sea of Japan, warships of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy and the Navy of the People’s Liberation Army of China, acting as part of a joint detachment, performed complex tasks with live missile and artillery firing as part of the Ocean-2024 command and control unit. On the Russian side, more than 15 warships took part in this episode of the exercise, including the flagship of the Pacific Fleet of the Guard Order of Nakhimov, the missile cruiser “Varyag”, the frigate “Marshal Shaposhnikov”, the BOD “Admiral Panteleev”, the corvettes “Perfect”, “Rezkiy”, “Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov”, two diesel submarines. The actions of the naval forces were supported by more than 10 aircraft and helicopters of the Naval Aviation of the Pacific Fleet and the Russian Aerospace Forces. On the Chinese side, the destroyers Xining and Wuxi, as well as the frigate Lin Yi, participated. – says the message.

It should be noted that the joint naval group eliminated the threat of attack by unmanned ships and FPV drones of the conventional enemy. For this purpose, Ka-29 airborne combat helicopters, “Grachonok” type anti-sabotage boats and onboard electronic warfare equipment were used.

“The detachment’s anti-mine support was provided by modern sea minesweepers Anatoly Shlemov and Yakov Balyaev. Long-range anti-submarine aviation support was provided by Tu-142 and Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft of the naval aviation, and Ka-27PL deck helicopters practiced searching for submarines using submersible sonar stations. Aerial depth bombs dropped from anti-submarine aircraft and RBU-6000 depth rocket launchers were used against detected submarines of a conventional enemy.” – added to the Ministry of Defense.

In addition, the ships of the joint detachment repelled an air attack by a mock enemy during the exercise. Naval artillery and the Kinzhal anti-aircraft missile system of the Admiral Panteleev naval defense force were used against air targets.

“During a naval battle with a naval group of a conventional enemy, the crew of the frigate “Marshal Shaposhnikov” carried out a practical launch of a cruise missile of the Uran complex. The warships fired artillery at sea shields simulating a detachment of imaginary enemy ships. In addition, the joint detachment practiced joint tactical maneuvers and communications training.” – says the message.

The formations and formations of the Russian Navy began on Tuesday with the holding of the strategic command and staff exercises “Ocean-2024”, which will last until September 16. The exercises are held in a bilateral format under the general leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Alexandra Moiseeva.

More than 400 warships, submarines and auxiliary vessels supporting the fleet, more than 120 aircraft and helicopters from the Navy’s naval aviation and Aerospace Forces, nearly 7,000 units of weapons, military and special equipment from the oceans, the Mediterranean, Caspian and Baltic seas, as well as more than 90,000 personnel are taking part in the exercises in the Pacific and Arctic waters.

“Ocean” is the code name for naval exercises held by the main command of the USSR Navy in 1970, 1975, 1977, 1983 and 1985. Ocean exercises (maneuvers) were the largest operational and combat training events of the USSR Navy in the post-war period and the largest in world history for their time, RIA Novosti recalls.
