Shocking footage of Picaña bridge collapsing due to river flood

Shocking images: a a bridge in the town of Picaña (Valencia) collapsed due to the flooding of the river DANA which hit the Valencian Community this Tuesday. The greatest chaos occurred in Utiel. On the other hand, as you can see in this video, Picaña was the scene of one of the most shocking images this Tuesday.

The Magro Riverfor which a particular hydrological alert has been issued due to the increase in its flow, began to overflow near the municipalities of Carlet and Algemesí (Valencia) by DANA.

This is what the Valencian Meteorological Association (Avamet) and the Carlet Town Hall explained on social networks, due to the DANA which affects the Valencian Community this Tuesday. The population is asked not to approach the area near the river.

The Hydrographic Confederation of Júcar (CHJ), in its special notice this afternoon, reported that the Magro could reach 1,000 m3/s downstream of the Forata reservoir. This flow, he warned, could cause widespread overflows in areas close to the river.

The Carlet municipal council, in an update on the situation at 5:55 p.m., reported the beginning of overflow and asked citizens to “exercise caution” and not approach the area. He explained that several trees fell and the Magro River bridge was cut.

Furthermore, at 5:00 p.m., the town hall also explained that a tornado had surprised the industrial zone and part of the municipal territory, causing the fall of certain lighthouses and roofs of companies in the industrial zone.

For his part, the The Algemesí City Hall also requested at 5 p.m. that in an orderly manner and proceed very calmly with the cessation of activity in industrial zones, since the DANA brought “intensities which triple the torrentiality”. “The population is seriously asked not to make trips that are not strictly necessary,” he insisted on his Facebook. According to AVAMET, the flow of the Magro River is “rising without stopping” and in a large part of the river basin, 200 to 350 liters per square meter has accumulated.

What is a DANA?

The word DANA is the acronym for Isolated depression at high levels. It is a system of low pressure or depression in the upper layers of the atmosphere. They are particularly dangerous in late summer and autumn in the Mediterranean area, when sea water surface temperatures are high. This promotes greater cloud developments, which can lead to heavier rain which can sometimes cause flooding.
