The shooting near the Israeli consulate in Munich occurred on the 52nd anniversary of the shooting of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympic Games held in the same city. In connection with the memorable date, the consulate was closed, as a memorial ceremony was held at the time in honour of the victims of Palestinian terrorism.
Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Oren Marmorstein said no consulate staff were injured. He added that the attacker was neutralized by German security forces.
