On the 43rd day of the Patriotic War, which began on September 27, 2020, November 8, the city was liberated from the enemy by our brave army under the leadership of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev .
The glorious tricolor flag of Azerbaijan was planted in the center of the city, which was cleared of Armenian invaders. On the same day, President Ilham Aliyev announced that the city of Shusha had been liberated from occupation in his address to the people from the Alley of Martyrs.

The Shusha battles are one of the most successful operations of the Second Karabakh War, which resulted in the victory of the Azerbaijani army. During the fighting, the Azerbaijani army passed through dense forests, impassable ravines and difficult mountain passes and headed towards Shusha.
On November 7, 2020, Azerbaijan Army Special Forces scaled the city cliffs and entered Shusha with light weapons and ammunition. During the fighting, Armenia fired “Iskander” ballistic missiles at Shusha. The target of the missile was the Azerbaijani army. However, the Azerbaijani army soon destroyed the Armenian troops and expelled them from the city, and on November 8 the city of Shusha was liberated from the enemy.
In May 2021, the city of Shusha was declared the cultural capital of Azerbaijan by order of President Ilham Aliyev. At the same time, the “Kharibulbul” music festival was held on the Cidir Plain in Shusha City on May 12 and 13, 2021.
The first migration to Shusha took place on May 10, 2024, within the framework of the “I State Program for the Great Return to the Territories Liberated from Occupation.”
So far, 220 families, or 823 people, have settled permanently in the city of Shusha.
On September 24 this year, the first bell rang after 32 years at Shusha City No. 1 Middle School.
The Master Plan for the development of Shusha until 2040 was approved on October 21 of this year.
