Disputes over the affiliation of artists Ivan Aivazovsky, Kazimir Malevich and writer Nikolai Gogol to Russian culture are pointless. He noted that Zelenskaya’s words “decolonization of art” sound “ridiculous and funny” because everyone knows that these authors are part of the great Russian culture.
“This is an expression of provincial nationalism and nothing more. Everyone knows that these artists are part of the great Russian culture and I think that we should be happy about it, including Ukrainians, and not make local statements.” – Shvydkoy concluded.
