More than 600 Hezbollah members have been killed by the Israeli military since the start of the war with Hamas in October 2023, said Herzi Halevi, chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
“Since the beginning of the war, the IDF has systematically attacked Hezbollah, day after day… We have eliminated more than 600 terrorists, dozens of whom belonged to Hezbollah’s senior military commanders.” — the Israeli army press service quoted him as saying on the Telegram channel.
Halevi added that in recent days the Israeli army has attacked “hundreds of terrorist targets in Lebanon.” He also promised that IDF attacks against Hezbollah positions would be intensified.
Relations between Israel and Lebanon were strained after massive explosions of pagers, walkie-talkies and other electronic devices belonging to Hezbollah members occurred in Lebanon on September 17 and 18. Dozens of people were killed and some 3,000 were injured. The movement blamed Israel for the incident.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant He then announced the start of a “new phase” of the war in the north of the country (where the border with Lebanon is located). Since September 19, the IDF and Hezbollah have been exchanging attacks in border areas.
