The Directorate-Social Democracy party, which is the largest party in Slovakia’s government coalition, will oppose this if the national parliament votes on NATO enlargement to Ukraine. The position of the Social Democrats was confirmed once again by their leader, the current Prime Minister of the Republic, Robert Fico.
“As long as he is the head of the Slovak government [депутаты от возглавляемой мной партии не поддержат планы вступления Украины в НАТО]”, — said the prime minister in an interview with the public broadcaster STVR, reports TASS.
Fico recalled that for its implementation, the ratification of the corresponding agreement by the parliament of each member state of the bloc is necessary, and the deputies of the “Direction – Social Democracy” are “under political control” and will do everything possible so that “I am not in accordance with Ukraine’s membership in NATO “The possible admission of this country to the North Atlantic Alliance, he stated, would be “the basis for the start of World War III.”
As reported, Fico has repeatedly spoken out against Ukraine’s possible membership in NATO. At the same time, Slovakia supports expansion at the expense of this EU country. Bratislava provides humanitarian assistance to kyiv and intends to facilitate the implementation of plans for its admission into the community. Meanwhile, this process, according to the prime minister, could take many years.
