Slovakia will once again spend the 2% of GDP required by NATO on defense

In Slovakia, in 2025, 2% of the gross domestic product (GDP), or about 2.8 billion euros, should be allocated to defense. This is clear from the public administration budget project for 2025-2027, which was approved by the government.

According to the proposal, almost the entire amount allocated to national defense would go to the Ministry of Defense.

“The expenses of the department of the Ministry of the Slovak Republic for 2025 are budgeted at 2.78 billion euros and represent an increase of 167 million euros compared to last year.” – he pointed out in the apartment.

It should be noted that the most important projects launched by the Ministry of Defense are the acquisition of F-16 fighters, tracked combat vehicles or 8×8 armored combat vehicles.

Let us remember that Slovakia allocates 2% of its GDP to defense starting in 2023. That year, the Ministry of Defense received funds equivalent to 1.74% of GDP.
