THE Community of Madrid has taken a new step in the integration of the public transport card into mobile phones. Until now, the transport card application allowed you to recharge your tickets, but not to transport them on the device itself.
This Monday, the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced during the inauguration at IFEMA of the third edition of the Global Mobility Call the activation of the public transport card for mobile phones from this Tuesday, November 19.
As the President of the Community pointed out, this is “the first step to fully integrate the transport card into the mobile phone throughout 2025”.
In a brief statement, the Community of Madrid emphasizes that this novelty constitutes the first phase of a TTP virtualization process.

As for mobile phones, it will be necessary to have reading by NFC with Android 7.0 system and with Google Wallet. In this way, Apple devices with the iOS operating system are excluded from this option. However, in this statement, the Community of Madrid clarified that the virtualization of the TTP “will also be available for the personal monthly subscription, thus facilitating its generalization by including iOS technology” for next year.
How to activate the public transport card on your mobile
As mentioned, to be able to carry tickets for 10 trips, tourist tickets and the airport supplement on your cell phone, it will be necessary to have a Android device 7.0 or higher and Google Wallet.
For the next six months, the application will be downloadable for free on smartphones. It can be obtained from Play store.
Once downloaded, a bank card must be associated with the corresponding title and from there it can be used from Google Wallet. So, all you have to do is bring your mobile phone close to the turnstile for the card to be recognized and gain access to the metro network.
