One in five children in the world lives in a country where there is conflict and crimes against children, and an average of 31 children are killed or seriously injured every day. Some 500 million children live in conflict situations.

According to the report, the number of serious infractions and crimes against minors in 2023 increased by 15% compared to the previous year and reached the highest level since the evaluation of the situation began in 2005. The report analyzes serious violations of the rights of children in conflict situations, including murders, amputations, robberies, sexual violence and participation in armed groups. Attacks on children’s institutions and lack of access to humanitarian aid are also taken into account. The organization reports that these crimes are committed an average of 76 times a day and their total number has reached an unprecedented level.
The worst situation is in the Palestinian territories, where crimes against children increased by 170%, and in Sudan, where the number of crimes against children increased more than five times in 2023 compared to 2022. The “blacklist” also includes to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Somalia.
The organization notes that the information presented is only “the tip of the iceberg.” The report notes that crimes against children have an economic impact, and measures to prevent and address the consequences of crimes against children amount to $19.1 trillion in global purchasing power parity terms.
