A sharp increase in automobile production was observed in Azerbaijan. Thus, according to official information, in January-September 2024, products worth 562.3 million manats were produced in the sectors of production of machines and equipment, other means of transport, automobiles, trailers and semi-trailers.
Compared with the same period last year, the production of automobiles, trailers and semi-trailers increased by 53.4 percent. In January-September of this year, 3,623 passenger cars were produced in the country. Compared to the corresponding period in 2023, passenger car production increased by 71.7 percent (or 1,513 units). It should be noted that in 2023, 2,110 passenger cars were produced in the country.
How will the sharp increase in automobile production in the country affect prices in the domestic market?
Eyyub Aliyev, CEO of the Azerbaijan Automobile Dealers Association, stated in his statement to “Trend” that local production is an urgent and important issue.
He said that domestic cars are cheaper for consumers than others:
“It can already be said that our taxi fleet is being renewed. This was influenced by the ban on importing cars more than 10 years old into the country and the beginning of the disposal process. At this time, it is very important to increase the volume of local production”.
According to the expert, a sharp increase in production can affect the prices of certain cars in the domestic market:
“However, we will not observe a significant price difference, because it is impossible to satisfy demand solely with domestic production. Cars are imported to Azerbaijan from Korea, Japan and especially China. The increase in local car production has a certain effect on passenger cars up to 10 years old on the second-hand market will not have such a serious effect on other cars.
It should be noted that compared to last year in Azerbaijan there was an increase in truck production. Thus, during the months of January-September of this year, 394 trucks were produced in the country. In the corresponding period of 2023, this indicator was equal to 285 units.
Thus, truck production in the country increased by 38.2 percent (or 109 units) compared to the same period last year. During January-September of the current year, tractor production decreased by 14.8 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
