THE floods events that occurred on October 31 in the Spanish Levante not only ended the lives of more than 200 peoplebut they also destroyed the homes of many residents who are now trying to rebuild their lives after the disaster.
It is not easy to return to the previous life, because in towns like Paiporta, Benetússer, Chiva, Utiel, Catarroja or Alfafar the tasks of cleaning and disinfection they continue. This is why, in recent days, we have seen thousands of volunteers traveling to the region to help residents affected by the disaster.
However, although many citizens have turned to these Valencian cities, the chaos has also allowed some criminals to take advantage of plunder and defraud to the neighbors. These days, in many neighborhoods of Valencia, people have denounced the the insecurity experienced in the streets since these floods.
Some Alfafar residents denounce several squatting attempts after DANA
Added to the wave of thefts that have taken place squatting attempts this has happened in many places. Among those affected by this crime are Ramón and Dolores, two residents of Alfafar who were about to be victims of a squat. As shown in “On everyone’s lips”the Cuatro program, it all happened when a man tried to enter their home illegally.
The owner of one of these houses explained to one of the journalists on Nacho Abad’s show that everything happened when he was inside his house: “My daughter came and There was a Moor trying to force the locktrying to get in. Here all the neighbors know each other. SO, my daughter caught his attention and he ran away», recalls Ramón, visibly affected by what happened.
This episode deeply affected local families, notably Dolores, who claims to have “absolute insecurity” in the city:We are abandoned and they enter our homes as they want. Criminals loot their homes: ‘They can kill you’
The squatting attempts are not the only devastating episodes that have occurred in the neighborhood. Dolores also recounted that, during DANA’s visit, she herself had to help many of your neighbors to prevent them from dying: “My neighbor Conchi was drowning. I had to take them upstairs to my houseand give him medicine and food. The poor They were drowning on the ground floor», remembers the woman.
During these days, in Alfafar, they witnessed the danger that threatens their streets and that has sowed fear among the citizens: “We are very afraid. They enter like Pedro through his house and that cannot be the case. At night it’s more dangerous, because if they break in, they can hit you with a stick and they can kill you. They loot everythingThey are taking advantage of the situation of the poor,” cried this Valencian neighbor, asking for solutions.
