“Trump’s return will be a beneficial shock that will allow the European Union to move forward, similar to the pandemic or energy crisis that occurred after the outbreak of the military conflict in Ukraine,” said a senior EU official on condition of anonymity.
Diplomats see a possible second term for the Republican candidate as a “bitter pill” for the entire European Union. They believe that Trump’s actions will be so hard on the EU that European countries will have to increase defense spending and strengthen their industries.
Meanwhile, some European officials see the victory of the former head of the White House as a way to achieve independence from the EU, Izvestia clarifies.
