Son Pardo Racecourse hosts the first Mallorca Hunting Fair

The first World Hunting and Rural Fair of Mallorca is open all weekend at the Son Pardo Racecourse with a full programme of activities, exhibitions and tributes related to the world of hunting. The second vice-president and island councillor for the Environment, Rural Environment and Sports, Pedro Bestardalong with the rest of the authorities, attended the release of carrier pigeons that launched the program.

Bestard expressed his satisfaction at having been able to recover an emblematic fair for many Majorcans, after more than a decade without being held under the organization of the island institution.

“This fair allows us to highlight the roots of the hunting world in Mallorca and the important work done by hunters, farmers and ranchers to preserve our natural environment, one of our most precious assets,” he said.

Between Saturday and Sunday, the public present will be able to enjoy more than fifty exhibitors and stands of local products, as well as a wide range of activities, shows and exhibitions for all ages linked to the themes of hunting.

An important exhibition of traditional crafts related to the landscape and utensils of traditional field and hunting trades, a simulation of bow hunting or an exhibition of more than 15 antique carriages used in field work are some of the activities included in the program. You can also see a sample of agricultural machinery and another of vehicles.

For their part, associations, clubs and federations linked to the rural world and hunting participate in the fair around thirty exhibition tents where they will present their activity.

During the two days of the fair, the public will be able to see various side activities such as archery, horse and falconry bird hunting exhibitions, sheepdogs, horse handling and greyhound and horse racing.

The event will include a demonstration of old Mallorcan crafts. This is an improvised theatrical performance that will serve to raise awareness of crafts that were common 60 years ago and are no longer relevant.

The exhibition will feature a live cooking demonstration at an event led by renowned chef Koldo Royo, who will prepare game dishes.

Prizes will also be awarded for the hunting photography competition, the winning images of which, along with other selected ones, will be exhibited during the fair.

On Sunday, several activities stand out, among which is the act of recognition of the career of five people closely linked to the world of hunting, among whom will be the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenc Galmés.

The venue is divided into six different areas, with a large space for sports games and entertainment for the little ones, as well as a catering service at the Hippodrome, where a wide variety of dishes will be served, including game dishes.

During the visit, Bestard was accompanied by the Island Director of Hunting, Sebastian Perello; the president of the Institute of Equestrian Sports of Mallorca, Gaspar Olivieras well as the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment, Jeanne Simonet.
