Tonight, Earthlings will witness an astonishing cosmic event: the Taurid meteor shower. The meteor shower is caused by the collision of our planet with a column of dust particles left by Comet Enke. This year the landscaping is expected to be particularly effective!
The Taurid meteor shower consists of two branches: the Southern and Northern Taurids. They will reach their maximum activity a week apart. The Southern Taurids are expected tonight and the Northern Taurids on November 12.
Although there are not as many meteors in this stream as in others, they are distinguished by their incredible brightness, duration and size.
According to astronomers, the conditions for observing the Southern Taurids this year are especially favorable. The moon will not be obstructed by its bright light and will allow a full view of the fiery shower of giant meteors. Unfortunately, the Northern Taurids will not be as visible due to the waning moon.
