Spain and the United Kingdom will resume negotiations on Thursday in an attempt to conclude a treaty allowing them to integrate Gibraltar in the European Union after the Brexit to try to achieve a zone of shared prosperity on both sides of the fence. Official sources of Exteriors added that, according to Executive Vice-President Maros Sefcovic, negotiations between Spain and the European Commission with the United Kingdom on Gibraltar will resume at ministerial level next Thursday in Brussels.

The Gibraltar Government has confirmed that the Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo will participate again in the said meetingwhich will have the same format as those previously organized. All will be accompanied by their respective negotiation teams.

“I look forward to continuing work to reach agreement on a UK-EU treaty on Gibraltar’s future relationship with the EU. There are still technical issues to resolve, but I am always optimistic regarding the possibility of reaching a secure, mutually beneficial agreement that would bring renewed and improved prosperity to the entire region,” Picardo said in a press release.

During Monday’s meeting, in addition to the Gibraltar agreement, Albares and Lammy discussed bilateral issues that affect citizens of both countries, as well as the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East.
