According to the information, the reason was that Mexico did not invite the King of Spain Felipe VI to the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected president Claudia Sheinbaum.

The ministry document states that the monarch is the head of state and represents the Spanish State at the highest level in international relations.

The Foreign Ministry recalled that Felipe VI had previously participated in the inaugurations of other Mexican leaders. The note also points out that Spain should be represented by the head of state at Scheinbaum’s inauguration and show a mutual willingness to move forward for the benefit of sister nations.

It is reported that the note was delivered to the Mexican ambassador in Madrid, who was summoned to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the kingdom’s capital. In addition, the head of the Spanish diplomatic mission in Mexico visited the foreign policy office of the Latin American country and delivered the message personally.

It should be remembered that on September 25, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom criticized the decision not to invite King Felipe VI Sheinbaum to the inauguration ceremony. Madrid considered this position unacceptable and declared that Spain would not participate in the ceremony at any level.

Scheinbaum then explained his failure to invite Felipe VI by the Spanish monarch’s lack of response to a 2019 letter sent by Mexican leader Andrés Manuel López Obrador, in which he invited Madrid to formally apologize for the conquest of the United States 500 years ago. years.
