Spain recovers from Storm Kirk as AEMET announces ‘new and deep storm’ that will affect the south

AEMET, however, warned that after the passage of Storm Kirk, “a new and deep storm” is expected which will affect from Friday, particularly in southern areas, where heavy rain is expected.

Concerning temperatures, a general drop is expected. Temperatures will decrease overall, with the exception of some increases in maximums in the Pyrenees and in the southwest of the peninsula and minimums in the southeast, while decreases in maximums will be notable in the east from the Cantabrian Sea, in the south of the Iberian system and in the southeast mountains, on a day with possible light frosts in the Pyrenees.

The winds will blow mainly from the west on the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with more intensity on the coasts and in the eastern areas. Throughout the day, they will tend to attenuate and evolve towards a southern component. Strong gusts are expected in eastern mountainous areas and the Balearic Islands, while in the Canary Islands the trade wind will be weak and variable.

AEMET warns of possible fog in high areas of Galicia and Asturias during the first and last hours of the day. Variable cloudiness is also expected in the Cantabrian regions, where rains could be persistent during the first hours and decrease towards the afternoon.

  • Castile and León: Morning fog in the mountains and scattered showers. Temperatures are also decreasing.
