Since the beginning of the war, Spain has not signed new contracts for the sale of war material with Israel, although another question concerns the contracts still in force and what we buy from them.
Grenades, tanks or bombs are paralyzed. There are no new exports from Spain to Israel in this area, at least since last October 7, when the war against Gaza.
Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares has already assured that “the Spanish government has not granted any new arms export license to Israel since October 7. And this will continue to be the case as long as the spiral of violence in Gaza continues, which we want to end.”
But contracts already signed – before October 7 – must be sent. In the first half of 2023 – the only data published to date by the Government – were carried out 22 licenses for the export of defense equipment for a worth more than 44 million euros.
The specific materials are battle tanks, armed military vehicles, fire control systems and other devices such as bombs, missiles and rockets and are 100% intended for private companies.
There are also 15 licenses for dual-use equipment, both military and civilian, worth 4 million euros. But while the new licenses are paralyzed, imports are not. Since the beginning of the war, Spain has acquired war material worth more than a billion euros.
