The Spanish defense, security, aeronautics and space industry achieved a turnover of 13.9 billion euros in 2023, 15% more than the previous year and returning to levels before the Covid-19 pandemic. The data was presented this Monday in the report on “The economic and social impact of the defense, security, aeronautical and space industry in Spain”, prepared by the consulting firm PwC for Tedae. “The report allows us to know precisely the contribution of the sector and to highlight the enormous contribution it makes to the economic and social development of the country,” underlined the Secretary of State for Defense, Amparo Valcarcel.
Concretely, the impact on the GDP of these sectors was 19.688 million euros in 2023, 12.1% of industrial GDP from Spain. Furthermore, his tax contribution increased to almost 7 billion euros, representing 2.6% of tax revenue in Spain.
The impact on employment in the sector included in Tedae, with the creation of 215,607 jobs between direct and indirect. The report highlights that for every direct job in these sectors, three other jobs are generated throughout the economy. In addition, the average monthly remuneration of its employees is 3,776 euros, or 71% more than the Spanish average.
