Standards have been established for the teaching working hours of teachers and lecturers in educational institutions.

The teaching working hours of teachers and educators in educational institutions of Azerbaijan have been determined.

According to the information obtained by “Informe”, the scope of general teaching work of such personnel includes various areas of activity (direct participation in the teaching process, activities related to preparation for the teaching process, assessment, support for students, scientific research – methodological and methodological work, scientific research activities, professional development, etc.) is determined depending on the types of educational work that are formed on its basis.

The following types of teaching work are defined in educational institutions:

– group lessons (semi-group, combination of groups) (lectures, seminars, practical exercises);

– laboratory work;

– individual lessons (the type of lesson created for students of specialties that require special skills in certain special subjects and taught with 1 student);

– practical lessons (designed for students of specialties requiring special skills in a given special topic (performance subjects (various ensembles, quartet, accompaniment class, folk dance music, etc.); recitation of sheet music, polyphony, duet, gymnastics, etc.) and type of lesson conducted with 2-6 students);

– thematic lessons held outside the educational institution (the type of lesson held outside the educational institution on a given topic);

– pre-examination counselling;

– students’ experience in the specialty;

– work related to the process of preparing course projects (assignments), graduation theses, thesis works (at master’s and doctoral level) (guidance, advice and feedback, etc.);

– carry out current and interim evaluations, carry out inspection work, conduct examinations, etc.

A teaching load of 1.5 full-time units may be assigned to teaching staff by decision of the head of the educational institution. In addition, they may voluntarily give additional lessons for a maximum of 250 teaching hours on an hourly basis. At the moment, the amount of time allocated to lectures, seminars, practical and laboratory exercises, as well as individual lessons in specialties oriented to culture, music and arts should not be less than 60 percent of the annual academic load.

By decision of the head of the higher education institution, taking into account their scientific achievements and research competence, the annual teaching load of the teaching staff engaged in scientific research (if the main place of work is the same higher education institution) may be reduced by up to 40%. At this time, the number of such teachers and lecturers may not exceed 5 percent of the total number of teachers and lecturers of the higher education institution.
