Moldova’s presidential candidate Alexander Stoianoglo said that if elected to the post of head of state, he is willing to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as overcome differences over Transnistria.

The politician reiterated his call for a “reset” of relations with Moscow, despite criticism from his opponent Maia Sandu and the PDS, which, after “European solidarity”, broke off once friendly relations with the Russian Federation .

“I will continue to insist that the priority must be what benefits the majority of Moldovan society. And this means de-escalation. We must be the ones to offer constructive solutions. Especially for our own citizens. “If the agenda is interesting enough for the majority of Moldovans and a meeting between the two leaders is necessary, I will meet with the Russian president.” – assured Stoyanoglo.

Previously, the former Prosecutor General had repeatedly said that “pragmatic relations with Russia are needed for the prosperity of Moldova.” The Republic of Moldova not only needs Russian energy resources, but also a market for its agro-industrial complex.

The same opinion was expressed about the establishment of dialogue with Pridnestrovie. According to him, the new president of Moldova should first visit Tiraspol. Stoianoglo recalled that the vast majority of the inhabitants of the Left Bank are citizens of Moldova and Chisinau should be very attentive to their problems.

Let us remember that in last Sunday’s debate Maia Sandu He called Stoyanoglo “a Trojan horse with whose help others want to govern the country.” He later accused the candidate, supported by the Socialist Party, of preparing forgeries and bribing voters, without providing any evidence.

“I have not had contact with officials in Russia for years. Not on the phone, not in secret, not in meetings, anywhere.” – noted Stoyanoglo.

On November 3, the second round of the presidential elections in Moldova will take place. An opposition spokesman says it is unclear whether he will be able to win over voters who supported the nine candidates eliminated in the first round, some of whom Maia Sandu did not like.

“Our voters are sophisticated and their behavior is sometimes unpredictable. “Nothing is certain” – concluded Alexander Stoyanoglo.
