A sharp change in temperatures after the high temperatures that the region has been experiencing in recent days. The heat alert this Wednesday, where thermometers can reach 36ºC in Madrid, will be followed by a very different alert due to heavy showers.
The National Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated the yellow alert throughout the Community of Madrid due to the storms, which are likely from 3 a.m. until late Thursday. These may be accompanied by downpours of up to 15 liters per square meter in intensity.
The reason for this change in weather is the formation of a trough and the subsequent formation of a dana that will affect the peninsula from north to south in its central area. Aemet warns that this phenomenon could be accompanied by hail over large areas of the peninsula. There may also be – with less probability – gusts of strong wind.
As this is a sudden phenomenon, the state agency recommends making sure to update its forecasts in the coming hours, as they could change considerably. For now, what seems certain is a clear decrease in maximum temperatures, which will favor the thermal relief of the region.
Maximum temperatures will drop from 36ºC on Wednesday to 29ºC on Thursday and could reach the ground on Saturday with a maximum of 26ºC. Minimum temperatures will remain stable and cool, especially during the night from Saturday to Sunday.
As for the possibility of showers, it seems clear that it will rain this Thursday and that there will also be a chance of precipitation on Friday and Saturday. The following Aemet chart shows the options for each day:
